Hypothyroidism Diet - The Importance of Metabolism Posted By : K Jones
Posted by admin in Prescription Obesity Drugs, Weight Loss on April 28th, 2009
The importance of a good metabolism in a hypothyroidism diet can?’t be overstated enough. Without increasing your metabolism you are just going to waste your time while you try to lose weight. So, what is the answer for someone suffering from a low thyroid?
Boosting your metabolism!
There are a number of ways in which you can raise your metabolism. The first thing you should do, and this should be obvious, is to make sure that your hormone levels are being regulated. You would be surprised at how many people have hypothyroid disease without even knowing it.
Further still, you would also be surprised at how many people don?’t even check up on their thyroid levels. They just assume that the amount of medication they are taking is enough. A lot of times it isn?’t enough. So it is up to you to follow up with your doctor if you don?’t feel right or if you are having trouble losing any weight.
Now that we have that under control the next thing that you can do is to start eating more often throughout the day. Just eat smaller meals. The idea is not to go over the total amount of food that you would normally consume in the course of a day.
Figure out how much you eat each day and divide this by 5 or 6, then break it up and eat 5 - 6 meals. This will have the benefit of keeping your metabolism at a higher and more consistent level throughout the whole day. Since you will also feel more satisfied your hypothyroidism diet will not seem to be a chore.
Next is to start exercising. By performing some form of cardiovascular exercise you can dramatically increase your metabolism. Just going to the gym 3 days a week can have a positive effect on your body. Hop onto a treadmill or elliptical trainer and start moving. Start out slowly at first if you haven?’t done any exercise in a long time. But, before too long, you will start to see a difference in your body and how it responds to the exercise.
Along these lines you will want to do some form of body building. I am not talking about becoming Mr. or Miss Universe but adding some lean muscle to your body. Your muscles need to consume calories to do the job that they do. It doesn?’t matter if they get those calories from the food that you eat or from the fat stored in your body. The benefit to your body is that the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn supplying those muscles with energy. The net result is that you will burn even more of your fat with the additional muscle.
A balanced diet consisting of good healthy proteins and carbohydrates will help you to build that metabolism boosting and fat burning machine. If you follow these tips you will have greater success with you hypothyroidism diet.
