Obese Or Overweight?

Obesity is a term used to describe body weight that is much greater than what is considered healthy. In our society, people take it as an insult if they are referred to as “fat”. If you are obese, you have a much higher amount of body fat than lean muscle mass. Consumption of more calories than can be burned leads to being overweight and, eventually, obesity.

The fat is what the body stores as unused calories and higher deposits of this will risk good heath. Many people think abstaining from food over a space of time takes away the fat. Surprisingly, that is not true. Food is necessary for survival. The lowest recommended intake is 1200 calories for women and 1500 calories for men per day. Fad diets are the diets that make unrealistic promises. Most fad diets are very low in carbohydrates and in calories. This causes fluid loss from the body, which indicates a loss of weight on the scale. Once the body gets rehydrated with water, the weight will come right back. It is, therefore, possible to loose so much water weight while the fat content still remains inside the body.

Obesity is a significant health threat. The extra weight puts unusual stress on all parts of the body. It raises your risk of having diabetes, stroke, heart disease, kidney disease, gallbladder disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and cancer. Obesity is also likely to cause development of osteoarthritis and sleep apnea.

It is important to keep body weight at a healthy level. The majority of obese and overweight people get frustrated because the problem weight does not go regardless of how they try. At some point of time one must seek for extra help. There is always some definite help somewhere but one has to go forward and reach for it. Obesity must go.
