Most of the Americans agree with the fact that Americans are getting fatter. According to statistics, millions of Americans are considered clinically obese. What should be blamed for causing this problem and what to do about it? The very simple reason we can blame is Americans eat too much and exercise too little. In fact, is it really true? What are the main roots for causing obesity in America? Let’s look into them in order to find solutions.

The “Super Size’ culture is very popular in United States.

Americans are always served with large portion of food. Most restaurants have made the offer of huge serving sizes a good selling point to boost their sales. Almost everything, ranges from cold salad, burger, spaghetti and meatballs to a steak dinner, is served in large portion to attract customers and encourage them to eat more. Consequently, Americans are now used to eat large portions for each meal and their weight is increasing dramatically.

Americans hardly do physical exercise

We don’t move enough after every meal to burn our calories. We work in front of the computer, we sit in the office, we watch too much television in the evenings and at night, we drink a lot of beers and liquor, we surf internet, we play computer games, we lie down to chit chat on the phone, etc. We allocate so much of time for the activities above but we don’t allocate time for regular physical exercise. Life is filled with remote control and we don’t even move our body at all.

Americans Eat More Fast Food

Studies have shown that the consumption of fast food has increased tremendously among the society. Fast food has become the favorite food among kids as well as adults. People do not really bother whether there is any healthy fact when they consume fast food. They love burgers with double cheese, fried chicken, pizza with cheese toppings and sweet tomato sauce, oily fries, etc. Moreover, they love carbonated beverages very much and these drinks are “must have” in every of their meals. As a result of consuming high calories food, the consumers become fatter.

Too Stressed Out

Stress has been identified as one of the leading causes to obesity. When we are stressful, we have the tendency to consume sweetening food which contains more fat and sugar, such as donuts, chips, biscuits, lollipops, candies, chocolate bars, etc. Eating donuts from Krispy Kreme for tea time and biting chocolate bars when you are thinking ideas make you feel good, however, it will ultimately bring you higher risks of suffering from diabetes and heart disease. Besides, when somebody is having too much of stress, they can’t sleep at night. Sleep deprivation leads to some sort of weight gain in long term.

American’s mindset

Americans like to eat and they enjoy eating all the time. We never say No when we are offered something delicious at anytime anywhere. In fact, it is time for us to configure our mindset and we have to realize that food is always available all the time and we don’t need to make ourselves too full. What we need to do before we dine is to keep track of the caloric intake and we need to control the portion as our appetite may not tell us the truth when we have had enough.

The Side Effect of Drugs and Medication

Some people are facing weight gain problem after taking certain drugs to cure their diseases. For instance, some steroid hormone prescriptions may have the side effect of causing it. So as some of the specific medications which are used for curing diabetes, sleep disorders, birth control, high blood pressure, etc.

Genetics and Family History

Studies have shown that for a small percentage of people, they are overweight because of their genes. There is a high possibility for a person to suffer from obesity when his or her parents are suffering from it. As a result, the person with family history must watch out his or her eating habit with extraordinary care.

Although this disease is a severe health problem, it can be overcome if we know the causes in details and find the suitable solutions to cure it.
