Commonly Asked Questions on How to Lose Belly Fat
Posted by admin in Prescription Obesity Drugs on June 11th, 2009
If you are a woman over 40 you likely have some questions about losing belly fat.
In this article I respond to the most common questions regarding losing belly fat for women over 40.
What are the most important foods to keep off?
Trans fats and saturated fat consumption would make it impossible for you to lose belly fat. Try to avoid them as much as possible. Chocolate, milk, fatty meats and some kinds of oil contain saturated fats. Stay away from them.
Simple, empty carbohydrates are not good for you too. White flour, white rice, white bread and pasta all contain empty carbohydrates. Sugar, including fruit sugar isn’t good for you too.
How do I avoid cravings?
You need to maintain your blood sugar at a constant level. Get every 2-3 hours a little meal. But look out for the calories, they add up easily. Get enough fiber to make you feel full- mineral and vitamin-rich vegetables are good for that.
To lose belly fat, is cardiovascular training helpful?
Cardio helps a lot- it’s the type of training which will make you burning fat the best while you are exercising. Make sure you train with various intensity levels- you need to be completely out of breath, then have 2-3 minutes to catch your breath again, then challenge yourself once again. If you can do this daily, your physical fitness will improve greatly. You’ll burn calories after your workout as well, helping you losing belly fat.
I do not want to get bulky. Should I do strength training?
It is very difficult for a woman to get bulky- you would have to train very heavily to become bulky. Increasing muscle mass will assist you burning fat when you are not physically active, for example while you’re sleeping. Muscles burn fat, fat tissue doesn’t burn fat. Replacing fat with lean muscles is a sound idea.
Do exercises for the abs (sit-ups, crunches, etc.) help?
Yes and no. They do not help in the sense of “I have fat on my abs, so when I am working my abs, I will shrink the fat on my abs”. This doesn’t work that way. But: If you tone your abdominal muscles, you will burn more calories- more muscles mean automatically more calories burnt. And: If you have well trained abdominal muscles, you’ll better suck in a protruding belly.
I’ve heard that sleep is fundamental in losing belly fat. Is it actually true?
Yes, you’re right. The fewer sleep a person gets, the higher the likelihood of being obese. In more general terms, try to find sufficient time for yourself. The more stress you have, the higher the likelihood of being overweight or obese.
Do Pilates or Yoga help?
Pilates and Yoga help a great deal. They will tone up your midsection while challenging your cardiovascular system. You might find that your posture improves too- people will see you as more powerful and energetic.
I’ve answered some common questions regarding losing belly fat especially for women over 40. Since the lifestyle of women over 40 varies greatly, you might consider joining a program allowing you to ask questions regarding your specific situation.
