What Causes Lap Band Surgery Failure?
Posted by admin in Prescription Obesity Drugs on June 27th, 2009
The reason for lap band surgery failure is the same for the failure of all types of bariatric surgery. People have many reasons for choosing gastric bypass surgery as a method of losing the excess weight. And you will lose weight, but what happens when the weight loss slows and you no longer have the problems eating foods that you did in the months following the surgery?
All the literature talks about “dumping syndrome” and a life long intolerance to certain foods and this is the case with many bariatric patients. But what if you are part of the minority that can eat almost anything a year following the surgery? You may not be able to eat large portions in one sitting, but there is nothing that prevents you from grazing your way through the day. Now what?
First of all, the medical professionals that will be interacting with you before and after your surgery, will give you all the guidelines you will need to be successful at losing your weight and keeping it off. All you have to do is follow these instructions. And that is not always as easy as it sounds. These instructions are not physically difficult, but our thinking sometimes gets in the way of our best intentions.
Being involved in a support group or a forum is one of the best things you can do to keep yourself focused on your goals. There are members that can share with you their successes and failures and you can do the same.
The biggest reason for not being successful at keeping your weight off is failing to make the necessary lifestyle changes. If you do what you have always done, you will get what you always got. There is nothing that will keep you from regaining weight, if you do not make healthy choices. Weight loss surgery is only a tool and the rest is up to you.
