What is the Cause of Your Weight Problem

This is a question which calls for brutal honesty if you are to succeed in your weight loss journey to uncover the confident, attractive person you really can be.

Now that you have a powerful reason for losing weight (see my previous article ‘Why Do You Want to Diet ‘) the next most important item on your agenda is probably a little more difficult to uncover, and it is imperative that you must be brutally honest with your answer.

Do you eat the wrong kind of food Ready meals, chocolate, fizzy drinks, greasy chips, sugar in your beverages for example. Start the easier way, not by giving up altogether but by either having smaller helpings or eating these foods less and less often.

Are you lonely, worried, sad, stressed, lacking in confidence and find comfort in eating Unfortunately you are only making the situation more difficult for yourself. Eating really isn’t going to make your problems go away. You may be able to forget them for a little while but it will be only temporary and those excess calories are going to be with you a lot longer. Don’t struggle on alone - seek professional help to overcome any difficulties in your life, NOW.

Are you a busy person who relies on takeaways, convenience foods, or eating out Remember that not only are you probably eating far too many calories but your salt intake will almost certainly be higher than the recommended levels - a double whammy!

Do you dine out with business colleagues on a regular basis If so you are probably so engrossed in discussions that you pay little or no attention to what you are eating. Maybe rushing through your meal so that you can concentrate properly on what is being said. If so study the menu closely and order light meals. But choose food you enjoy.

Do you finish your food before anyone else you are eating with Chances are that you are eating too fast. Put small amounts into your mouth at a time and take the time to chew each mouthful really well. When was the last time you really enjoyed what you were eating Now’s the time to start. Chew slowly and enjoy each and every mouthful. Gulping down your food is not good for your weight or your digestion.

Do you live to eat If eating is your favourite pastime you need to develop other interests. May not be easy for you but if your motivation is great enough you will find a way.

Do you load your plate up or have second helpings You can work out what to do if either of these apply!

Do you blame your genes If you feel your weight has been passed down to you through your parents it may be more difficult to shed those unwanted pounds/kgs. Usually it will have come from your mother’s side of the family. Perhaps your style of eating today has been passed down from what you ate as a child. You may even have been given too much nourishment before you were born and you’ve been fat since birth. You may feel that it is too late for you to do anything about it, if so please think again. You can break the mould if you truly wish.

Have you a health problem which contributes to you being overweight If you are unlucky enough for this to be the case get your Doctor’s advice on the best diet and exercise regime for you to follow.

Have you suffered a marriage or partnership breakdown When you’re feeling low and vulnerable is a prime time for reaching for ‘comfort’ foods. Your world has turned upside down but the one thing that remains constant is food. It’s not easy to turn things around but you can and must do so. You must make yourself attractive once again. It will be the biggest boost you can give your poor battered ego.

Are you a couch potato Lack of exercise combined with overeating is a prime culprit. Now is the time to introduce some enjoyable form of exercise into your life.
