When kids play the are having lots of fun. And the more they jump around the more fun it is. This changes with age: Physical Exercise becomes less and less related with fun. Many women over 40 do not like to go to a gym or do any form of physical activity, what makes it tough for them to lose weight permanently.

But this doesn?’t has to be that way. If you exercise regularly, your mood will improve. People tend to feel more energy, feel more capable and productive and are emotionally more well-balanced.

Recent research released in the Archives of Internal Medicine investigated the consequences of physical exercise on the quality of life of menopausal women. All women were overweight or obese and had a sedentary lifestyle. The women were placed in 3 different exercise plans with varying intensity level. A control group did not exercise.

The results are interesting: Even if the women did not lose any weight (that means, they counterbalanced the exercise by consuming more), their quality of life increased. More physical exercise lead to better well-being, higher intensity of the exercise program leads to higher quality of life.

A beneficial result on the sense of well-being was achieved even by the group doing the exercise program with the lowest intensity.

Of course, to lose weight permanently over 40 you have to integrate physical activities in your lifestyle. However you shouldn’t do it for the weight loss only. Exercise will make you feel better and increase the quality of your life- particularly if you are over 40.
