Metabolism Boosting Food

A high metabolic rate ensures that calories are burned fast in the body giving a resultant reduction in body fat and weight. To achieve this however, it becomes more important to understand and implement the right choices of diet. The following tips give details of such necessary diet.

Water: water raises metabolism and particularly aids exercise by enabling it burn more calories than would have been burned if the body was less hydrated. Furthermore, it suppresses appetite, thereby preventing overeating and also helps to flush toxin from the body. It is advisable to always take between eight (8) to ten glasses of water daily.

Food containing ‘Capsaicin’ a chemical compound (e.g spicy pepper, chilli pepper, jalapeno, etc), causes the body to release stress hormones to deal with the shock of the heat, and this in turn raises metabolism - speeding up the body’s calorie consumption.

Green tea and Green tea supplements (found in most health shops) contain high levels of antioxidants which helps with the reduction of cholesterol in the body.

Food rich in protein boosts metabolism. Intake of food with larger amounts of protein and lower amounts of fat makes it easier for the body to put on muscle. Muscle definitely requires fat to burn in order to be sustained! In this category are lean white meats, especially turkey. Always remember to remove the skin however, as the skin on white meat contains a lot of calories.

Fruits and Vegetables: cucumber, aubergine, peas, grapefruit, broccoli, celery, lettuce, apples, pears, etc are good at raising metabolism and helping to burn fat. Lettuce and celery even require more calories to consume than they actually contain. All these reduce the body insulin level aiding weight loss in the process. It has also been proved medically that fruit inclusion in a diet reduces the cravings for sugar resulting in a reduction in the total number of calories consumed in a day when compared to non-fruit eaters. Vegetables also contain high levels of vitamins, minerals and ions that are quite essential for the body, as well as fibre, required for a healthy digestive system.
